On Friday, 05 May, Ennerdale’s Uniting Reformed Church on Odin Street was broken into, the burglars stole a number of valuables that include a digital mixer with wireless controls, power amps, wireless microphones, Hybrid speakers, 2 computers with monitors an inverter and cleaning materials estimated to be worth over R145 000.

A caretaker made the grim discovery and called the police.
Uniting Reformed Church’s Rev Wessie Wessels told GLOBE POST: “The police told us that they will come for fingerprints but they never showed up.”
He added: “We live in hope, what happened won’t deter our faith or activities because life and worship go on.”
Established in 1982, Uniting Reformed Church has not only served the greater community of Ennerdale with spiritual upliftment and worship, it has also contributed positively to the betterment of the community through extensive community work in informal settlements with Community Health Workers and Pre-schools.
“We have to realize that churches are soft targets for criminals and invest more on security,” Rev Wessels added.
It appears as if there is a criminal syndicate operating in the area targeting churches.
Late last month, GLOBE POST reported of a burglary that happened at the premises housing South Springs Christian Fellowship Church and Daxina Christian Centre in Lenasia South Ext 4 where sound equipment worth over R200 000 was stolen.
Efforts to get comment from Ennerdale SAPS were futile as the spokesperson’s number went unanswered.
