Police chase leads to firearm arrest in Eldorado Park
A 20-year-old man has been arrested in Eldorado Park after police allegedly found him in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The arrest was made on Tuesday, 18 August, in Delaware Street, Eldorado Park Extension 7, during an intelligence-driven operation involving members of the Eldorado Park Tracing Unit and Gauteng Traffic Wardens.
According to SAPS, officers received Crime Intelligence-driven information about a man who was allegedly handling a firearm and firing shots randomly in the area.
Police proceeded to the location and spotted a man matching the description provided. The suspect allegedly attempted to flee after noticing officers, but was apprehended following a chase.
“Upon seeing the police, he tried to flee, but the police gave chase and caught him,” SAPS said.
Officers searched the suspect and allegedly found an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in his possession. He was arrested and is expected to appear in court soon.
Eldorado Park SAPS said it remains committed to tackling the circulation of illegal firearms in the community.
“The SAPS Eldorado Park reiterates its commitment to removing illegal firearms from our communities,” police said.
