Ennerdale School of Dance changes lives one step at a time

Born out of the passion to keep children off the streets and on the dance floor, the Ennerdale School of Dance has not skipped a beat for the past 13 years offering Ballroom and Latin dance lessons to local youngsters as an alternative to those who are not into sports to keep fit and active while acquiring a new skill.

The school has more than 20 dancers with some commuting daily from Eldorado Park and Protea Glen to its centres at the Ennerdale Ext 9 Community Hall and Finetown Multipurpose Centre for lessons.

Founder and dance teacher, Charmaine Pienaar, told GLOBE POST: “I decided to open the dance school as a way of giving back to my community and to groom potential dancers.”

The seasoned dancer, Pienaar, now 51-years-old, started dancing at the age of 14 and hopes that someday her learners will fill her shoes and take over the school.

The school faces a number of challenges, Pienaar shared some of them: “Dance is an expensive sport and parents sacrifice a lot for their kids to compete. Finances and transport are our main challenges at the moment.”

Ennerdale School of Dance charges R300 per month to anyone interested in learning Ballroom and Latin dance.
