Intriguing, raw and provocative, are some of the words used to describe Waves of Life – a locally produced drama film that recently premiered on SABC 1 and is aSABC+.

Produced by Lenasia South’s Brilz Film Production, Waves of Life depicts the daily struggles of an alcoholic single father raising a daughter who falls pregnant as a teenager and faces several injustices due to socio-economic ills in her surroundings. The film has also been screened in film festivals such as The African Film and Arts, and Ugu Film Festival.

Shot in 2019 and after many delays due to Covid-19 and SABC 1’s lengthy film submission process, it was finally released.

Thendo Brilz (27), the director and producer told GlLOBE POST: “My co-producer, Fidelis Zamanga sat on this script for many years and when the opportunity to work on it presented itself, I went through the script and we both decided that it’s a story worth telling.”

Brilz holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Motion Picture from AFDA and started her production company in 2018 after quitting her internship at a well-known production company.

Her debut film, ‘Not for sale’ was mostly shot in Lenasia South and Soweto.

“Accessing funds to create excellent film is a mammoth task, we are busy writing compelling stories hoping to getting funding and bring them to life telling proudly South African stories to the world,” she added.
