South Africa will host the visitors at Kingsmead Stadium on Friday as the two sides begin a three-match Test series with plenty at stake. The opening match forms part of the ICC World Test Championship, with the hosts looking to build on their recent performances in the longest format of the game.
The home side won their previous Test series against India 2-0 in November 2025, while their most recent meeting with the visitors ended in victory for South Africa. The visitors, however, have enjoyed success at Kingsmead. They have won their last three Tests at the venue, including a 118-run victory in 2018.
There is also uncertainty over Kagiso Rabada’s availability. The fast bowler has been training with the squad after recovering from a hamstring injury, but the team will assess his fitness before the match. Anrich Nortje could also return to the Test side after spending almost four years away from the format. His pace could give the hosts another option against an experienced batting line-up.
The visitors will be without all-rounder Cameron Green, who suffered an abdominal strain during the third ODI against South Africa.
The match begins at 9:30 am on Friday, 9 October
