The Lenasia South Tamil Cultural Organisation (LSTCO) will hold its Biennial General Meeting on 25 October, where members will elect a new Executive Council and determine the organisation’s next Management Committee. The meeting will take place at 10:30am at the LSTCO Temple Hall.
The current Working Committee will first present its handover and financial reports before stepping down. Registered members will then elect the new Executive Council, which will subsequently elect the Management Committee from among its members.
Who can stand for election?
Candidates for the Executive Council must be registered members in good standing.
The organisation states that a person will not be eligible for election if they are insolvent, have been convicted of theft, forgery, fraud, misappropriation of funds or another punishable or anti-social crime, or are deemed to be of unsound mind.
Who can vote?
Only registered members aged 18 or older, whose membership has been valid for more than six months before the meeting, will be eligible to vote.
Members whose memberships have lapsed or who have outstanding membership arrears at the time of the meeting will not be eligible to vote.
Members may vote in person or by proxy, in accordance with the organisation’s governing documents. Proxy forms can be provided on request.
All members in good standing as of 25 October are entitled to attend the BGM.
25-member quorum required
A minimum of 25 registered members is required for a quorum.
If the required quorum is not present, the forum will decide whether the meeting should proceed.
The BGM will therefore be an important date for registered LSTCO members as the organisation prepares to hand over leadership and elect its next governing structures.
The meeting is being convened by order of the LSTCO Working Committee, comprising Maya Moodley, Romilla Moodley, Ragani Govender, Priscilla Arumugam, Thumbi Pillay, Martin Pillay, Venash Moodley, Ravi Naidoo and Sungarin Dass.
LSTCO is registered as a non-profit organisation under NPO registration number 305-106.
