The Gauteng Department of Health (GDH) has confirmed that the Chronic Clinic at the Lenasia South District Hospital will be moved to the Finetown Clinic once it opens.
GDH’s head of communications, Motalatale Modiba, told GLOBE POST: “The Chronic Clinic that is currently at the Lenasia South District Hospital will be moving to Fine Town Clinic upon its opening. The majority of patients that collect medicine from the Chronic Clinic at the Hospital reside in Finetown, thus, the movement of the Clinic is done to ensure that services are brought closer to the community.”
He added: “The Department would further like to urge patients from other catchment areas that collect medicine from the Clinic at the Hospital to visit their nearest facilities to collect the same.”
The Finetown Clinic is scheduled to open in this quarter, the Gauteng Department of Infrastructure Development is yet to provide a specific date, as they are currently putting up the finishing touches to the building.
Lenasia South residents have taken to social media to raise their concerns with this movement.
One of the residents wrote: “That will be a disaster for our elderly people. That should be stopped right away.”
Another one added: “What about our elderly, how will they get there? This is now ridiculous. So, what are they going to do here [Lenasia South Hospital] make it a museum?”
