Two karatekas from Moshito O Tswelapele Karate Academy returned home with medals after representing their club at the 8th Annual Provincial Tournament, organised by IKO Matsushima Full Contact Karate.
The academy, which is affiliated with the South African Kyokushinkai Karate Academy (SAKKA), was represented by two senior competitors who both delivered impressive performances in their respective divisions.
Langelihle Mamba (20) from Zakariya Park claimed third place in the men’s under-55kg division, while Jacky Ngoepe (17) secured first place in the disabilities category, earning top honours for the club.
Sensei Mabati Makwela praised both athletes for their dedication and determination: “I am impressed by the performance of our two karatekas. They showed discipline, commitment and the true spirit of Kyokushin karate. Their achievements are something our club and community can be proud of.”.
“I would like to thank the IKO Matsushima organisation for accommodating the disabilities category. Giving every athlete the opportunity to compete and showcase their abilities is very important for the growth of karate,” he added.
Makwela told GLOBE POST that the academy is looking to expand opportunities for young people through the sport and appealed for community and corporate support: “Our club is a registered non-profit organisation, and we welcome sponsors who would like to invest in developing young talent. With additional support, we can provide more opportunities for children and young people to participate in karate and represent our communities with pride.”
Moshito O Tswelapele Karate Academy currently trains at the Lenasia South Civic Centre Hall and the Zakariya Park Community Hall from Monday to Thursday, between 4pm and 6pm.
