Lenasia residents may continue to experience water supply disruptions and low pressure despite pumping at Rand Water’s Eikenhof Pump Station being fully restored following a City Power outage.
Rand Water confirmed on Monday, 24 August, that pumping capacity at Eikenhof had returned to 100%. However, the interruption affected the movement of water through the network, meaning some households could still face delays before supply fully stabilises.
Johannesburg Water cautioned that the restoration of pumping does not mean water will immediately return to all affected areas. Reservoirs and distribution systems need time to recover after the period during which no pumping took place. “Although pumping capacity from the Eikenhof Pump Station has been fully restored to 100%, customers may continue to experience a delayed impact on water supply due to the period during which there was no pumping,” Johannesburg Water said.
According to the water utility, recovery times will vary depending on reservoir levels, demand, pressure and overall conditions within the system. Lenasia and surrounding communities are among the areas that may continue to feel the impact while the network recovers.
Other affected systems include Aeroton, Naturena, Devland, Alan Manor, Orlando, Diepkloof, Protea Glen, Meadowlands, Doornkop, Zondi, Jabulani, Chiawelo, Northcliff and several other parts of Johannesburg. Johannesburg Water said it will continue monitoring the affected systems as water levels and pressure recover and will provide further updates on the situation.
Residents in Lenasia are therefore advised that although operations at Eikenhof have returned to full capacity, it may take some time before water supply across the area returns to normal.
