As the electricity outage enters its sixth day, Premie Pillay is growing increasingly concerned about the safety of her 60-year-old husband, Sundra Paul, who depends on medical oxygen to support his health.

The couple, who live on Mount Jefferson Place in Lenasia South Ext 4, have reportedly been without electricity for more than 144 hours. Pillay says their backup batteries and portable oxygen cylinders have been depleted, leaving the family desperate for urgent assistance as they wait for the power supply to be restored.

The prolonged outage has turned an electricity fault into a reported medical emergency, with the family appealing for intervention before the situation deteriorates further. According to Pillay, the outage affects the same cluster of five houses on Mount Jefferson Place. She says the affected households have experienced repeated electricity interruptions, raising concerns about a recurring localised fault that has yet to be resolved.

The family says the matter has been reported to City Power under reference number CPWEB5230110. Pillay has also reportedly notified the Ward 120 councillor about her husband’s medical circumstances. Despite these efforts, the family says it is still waiting for the necessary intervention.

“We are asking for urgent help. My husband depends on medical oxygen, and we are extremely worried about what could happen if this situation continues,” Pillay said. For Pillay, the ongoing outage is not simply an inconvenience. Her husband’s dependence on medical oxygen means access to the necessary equipment and a reliable supply are essential to his wellbeing.

The depletion of the household’s reported backup supplies has heightened the family’s concerns, while the continued lack of electricity has left them seeking an urgent solution. “We have been waiting for the electricity to come back, but the days keep passing. We need someone to take this matter seriously and help us,” Pillay said.

Neighbour Jane Govendor has been identified as another potential source of information about the recurring outages affecting the five homes. Her account could help establish how frequently the interruptions occur and whether other residents have experienced similar difficulties.

The family is calling on City Power to urgently dispatch a technical team to investigate the fault, restore electricity and determine why the same five houses reportedly experience repeated interruptions.

Globe Post is seeking comment from City Power regarding reference number CPWEB5230110, the six-day outage, the reported cause of the fault and the steps being taken to assist the affected households. As the outage enters its sixth day, the family’s immediate concern remains Sundra Paul’s safety. They are appealing for an urgent response to restore the electricity supply and address the medical risks they say the prolonged interruption has created. If anyone can assist please contact 083 979 1131
