South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia are preparing for an extraordinary global sporting spectacle, with nearly three million fans from 193 countries already entering the ticket ballot for the historic tournament. The excitement surrounding the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027 is reaching extraordinary heights, with more than 120 million ticket applications received as the countdown begins to one of the biggest sporting events ever staged on African soil.
The latest figures released by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on 2 November reveal that 120,809,467 ticket applications had been recorded by 1 November, underlining the enormous global appetite for the tournament. Nearly 2.8 million individual fans from 193 countries have registered for the opportunity to secure tickets, while more than 32.5 million match registrations have already been completed.
South Africa, the United Kingdom, India, the United States and Australia are leading the demand, but the enthusiasm extends well beyond the traditional cricket powerhouses. South Africa is emerging as a major attraction, with its 41 matches across eight venues attracting more than 105 million ticket applications. Matches involving the Proteas, including their 11 scheduled fixtures and pre-seeded Super 7 matches, have already generated almost 26 million requests.
The anticipated India-Pakistan showdown in Johannesburg on 10 October 2027 is among the biggest attractions, drawing more than 8.3 million applications. The tournament final, also scheduled for Johannesburg on 21 November, is not far behind, with nearly 7.9 million requests.
The excitement is equally evident across the region. Zimbabwe has attracted more than 13.3 million applications, while Namibia has received over two million requests for its six matches. Zimbabwe’s clash against India at the new Mosi-oa-Tunya International Cricket Stadium in Victoria Falls has already generated more than 3.3 million applications.
For Southern Africa, however, the significance of the tournament extends far beyond the cricket.
The 2027 edition will mark the return of the Men’s Cricket World Cup to Africa for the first time in 24 years. South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia will jointly host 57 matches across 12 venues in October and November 2027, featuring 14 teams.
It will also be a historic first for Namibia, which will host matches at a senior Men’s Cricket World Cup for the first time.
ICC General Manager of Events and Cricket Operations Gaurav Saxena described the response as outstanding, highlighting the opportunity to bring the tournament back to Africa and connect supporters across the continent and the world.
Local organising committee CEO Qondisa Ngwenya said the extraordinary demand demonstrated the excitement surrounding the event and the opportunity to showcase the three host nations’ people, cultures and hospitality to a global audience.
For fans still hoping to be part of the action, the ticket ballot remains open until 23h59 CAT on 21 November 2026.
Registration is free and does not require payment. Supporters can create an account at tickets.cricketworldcup.com, select their preferred matches and submit an application. The ballot is not first-come, first-served, and successful applicants will be notified by email.
With more than a year still to go before the first ball is bowled, one thing is already clear: the world is ready for Cricket World Cup 2027, and Southern Africa is preparing to welcome it.
