The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) wishes to advise motorists and residents of significant traffic disruptions in Orlando, Soweto, on Friday, 29 May 2026. This is due to the International Friendly fixture between South Africa (Bafana Bafana) and Nicaragua.

To ensure public safety and maintain order, JMPD officers will be deployed at key intersections to facilitate traffic flow around the Orlando Amstel Arena.

Affected Routes & Road Closures

Road closures will be implemented starting from 02:00 PM (14:00). Heavy traffic and closures are expected on the following major routes between 02:00 PM (14:00) and 11:00 PM (23:00):

N17

Soweto Highway

Klipspruit Valley Road

Martha Louw Street

Mooki Street

Sofasonke Street

Kumalo Main Road

Specific Intersections to be Closed:

Mooki Street: Between Nkom Ya Hlaba and Masopha Streets.

Martha Louw Street: Between Klipspruit Valley Road and Mooki Street.

Post-Match Traffic Flow (One-Way Systems)

To expedite the dispersal of fans after the final whistle:

Klipspruit Valley Road will be converted into a one-way street, running from Martha Louw Street towards the N17 traffic circle.

Soweto Highway: Will be closed at Eben Cuyler Street. Vehicles coming from Diepkloof will be diverted to Moshoeshoe Street in Orlando East.

Mooki Street: No left turn from Mooki Street onto Soweto Highway

Alternative Routes & Parking

Alternative Routes:

Drivers are encouraged to use Ballenden and Masopha Streets as alternatives to Mooki Street, or utilise the broader Soweto Highway network where closures are not in effect.

Spectator Parking Locations:

Corner of Martha Louw and Klipspruit Valley Road (Open Space).

Local Schools: Shomane High, AB Xuma Primary (Scott St), Lofentse Girls High (Mooki St), Zithathele Primary (Mooki St), Leratong Primary, Orlando High, Selelekela High (Mooki St), and Lereshe Primary (Adams St).

Orlando Court (Mooki Street).

Note: Parking inside the Orlando Amstel Arena is strictly reserved for VIPs, Media, and VOC members.

Event Logistics

Gates Open: 3:00 PM (15:00)

Kick-off: 6:00 PM (18:00)

JMPD urges spectators to arrive early to avoid gate congestion and requests residents to remain patient during this period. Please plan your routes in advance to minimise delays.
