The Johannesburg District Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit has appealed to the community for assistance in two separate rape matters reported at Lenasia police station this year. Detectives are attempting to identify individuals who could help shed light on the circumstances surrounding the incidents, with photographs released as part of the search for people who may have relevant knowledge.

The first matter was reported on 18 April 2026 after a woman allegedly met a man in Diepkloof and exchanged contact details with him. According to SAPS, the pair remained in contact before the man arranged an Uber for her to travel to Lenasia. When she arrived, he allegedly took her to a nearby bush, where she was raped. Investigators are now seeking to establish the identity of the person shown in the photograph released in connection with the matter.

“The person captured in the attached photograph may have information that can assist the ongoing police investigation,” SAPS said.

A separate incident was reported on 4 July 2026 after a woman was allegedly attacked inside her room. Authorities said she was asleep when an unknown man entered the room. The individual is described as tall and dark-complexioned and allegedly choked the woman before raping her. The FCS Unit has released another photograph of a person who may be able to assist detectives as they work to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Members of the community who recognise either individual, know where they may be found or have knowledge that could assist with either matter are urged to contact the relevant detectives. Detective Sergeant Mdiya is handling the April matter and can be reached on 061 164 9808, while Detective Constable Mulaisi is dealing with the July incident and can be contacted on 083 878 1928.

Information can also be provided at any SAPS station or through the Crime Stop line on 08600 10111. Those wishing to remain anonymous can make use of the MySAPSApp. Authorities have cautioned residents against approaching or confronting anyone they believe may be connected to the matters, and instead urged them to allow detectives to follow up on any leads received.

The FCS Unit continues to rely on cooperation from residents when dealing with serious sexual offences, particularly where community members may have seen or interacted with individuals who could assist in establishing what occurred. SAPS has encouraged anyone with relevant details to come forward through the official channels so that detectives can assess the information and take the necessary steps.

Anyone who may be able to assist is urged to contact the investigating officers as soon as possible. SAPS has also reminded the public that a person sought for questioning or assistance is not automatically considered an accused individual, and that any person charged with an offence is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
