The 3rd Annual Albert Allie Mathematics Olympiad was a successful event with organisers giving God all honour and glory for a day of inspiring interactions and celebration of brightest young minds. Held on Friday, 29 November, at Poseidon Road Primary School, the event gathered the top 22 mathematics learners from 11 primary schools in Lawley, Ennerdale, and Finetown.

This year’s exam was challenging, yet all learners demonstrated impressive mathematical skills, highlighting the dedication of their primary school teachers. The competition reached an exciting climax as Micah Lambert and Malik Neves from Odin-Park Primary tied for first place after two rounds. The tie was broken with a mental math question, with Malik Neves emerging as the winner.

Top three champions of the 2024 Albert Allie Mathematics Olympiad are:
1st: Malik Neves (Odin Park Primary)
2nd: Micah Lambert (Odin Park Primary)
3rd: Cryxan Kordom (Saint George Primary)

New this year, each of the participants received a Grade 8 mathematics study guide to aid their transition to high school. Previous Olympiad participants were invited back and also received Grade 9 and Grade 10 guides. This initiative supports long-term academic development and encourages accountability, as participants must return the guides to receive a new one for 2026.

Youth Engagement and Mentorship: Also new this year, participants from the first Olympiad were invited to assist with the event. Neo Mokoena and Zoe-Anne Devereux, now Grade 9 learners at Fred Norman Secondary, embraced the opportunity. Their involvement highlights the value of giving back and provides valuable extracurricular experience for their university applications.

Acknowledgments from organisers: ” A special thank you to Myles Daniels. You are the bedrock of this event! We value the example you set for the community and the inspiration you provide for our youth. We thank all the learners in attendance – you are the heart of this event! To the principals and educators, we appreciate the solid foundational seed you plant in these learners. Parents, your involvement plays a critical role in fostering academic success, confidence, and resilience. Thank you, Principal Siwela and Poseidon Road Primary, for hosting, and also our local vendors – Mellas Cakery, Colette’s Sweet Treats, Baro’s Takeaways, Prefill Water, and Maart Security – for your support in making this event an immense success!”
