A power outage affecting multiple areas serviced by City Power’s Lenasia SDC substation which began after a burnt basbar link on the Eskom side rendered the Ennerdale Switching Station, Lunar Substation, and Hopefield Substation inoperable.

City Power technicians discovered additional damage with approximately 400 metres of control protection cables stolen from their facilities.

The power utility’s protection team is currently assessing the extent of the damage and stolen materials. Repairs cannot commence until replacement parts are acquired. Eskom is also reportedly in the process of securing materials for their burnt basbar link.

Affected Areas:

  • Ennerdale: Extensions 1-14, Meriting, Lawley 1, Extension 9, and surrounding areas
  • Lunar: Lenasia South Extensions 4 & 7 (Migson Manor), Finetown (Eskom), Mountain View, Grasmere Toll Plaza, and surrounding areas
  • Hopefield: Ennerdale Extension 8 and Lawley 2

City Power apologizes for the inconvenience and acknowledges the estimated time of restoration remains unknown at this time. They assure customers they will receive updates as the situation progresses.
