City Power is currently working on alternative plans to restore electricity supply as quickly as possible to residents in parts of Hospital Hills and Vlakfontein who are facing power outages after a transformer failed during testing on Saturday at the Lotus Substation.

The incident highlights a recent rise in failing transformers and mini-substations which City Power attributes to a combination of factors, including network overload caused by theft and vandalism of electrical equipment.

In a statement released this afternoon, the power utility said: “Unfortunately, the demand for replacement equipment is exceeding our current stock and supplier capacity. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this causes our customers and urge them to be patient as we explore alternative solutions to restore power while a new transformer is procured.”

City Power estimates that power will be restored to the affected areas by Thursday. They will continue to provide updates as their efforts to resolve the matter progress.

Meanwhile,City Power has issued a notice to residents that there may be disruptions to electricity supply d due to the severe weather, such as heavy rain & thunderstorms.

“Our team is working diligently to address any issues that may arise and restore power as quickly as possible. To stay updated on any outages or service interruptions, please visit our website or follow our social media channels for real-time updates,” said the utility.

In the event of a power outage, residents are advised to:

– Use flashlights or battery-powered lanterns for lighting instead of candles to reduce the risk of fire.

– Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed to maintain the temperature. Unplug sensitive electronic devices to prevent damage from power surges when the electricity is restored.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the City Power customer care team on 011 490 7484 /0800 202 925.
