Hillside Learning Academy came alive with vibrant activities last week as learners took an active stand for children’s rights during Child Protection Week 2025.
The week-long program saw a series of impactful initiatives aimed at raising awareness and promoting the safety and well-being of children. One of the highlights was a live radio interview featuring the school’s Grade R learners, who confidently shared their thoughts on children’s rights and responsibilities.
In a bid to address critical issues such as bullying and child safety, representatives from the South African Police Service (SAPS), Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD), and the Youth Crime Prevention Desk paid a special visit to the school. Their awareness campaign engaged learners and staff alike, reinforcing the importance of child protection.
Sixteen learners proudly represented Hillside Learning Academy at the prestigious Smart Start Child Protection Week Programme, further highlighting the school’s commitment to fostering leadership and advocacy among its students.
Adding a powerful visual element to their efforts, the learners took to the streets in an awareness walk, marching from Goshawk Street to Peacock Street. With singing, chanting and distributing informative flyers, they ensured the message of child protection reached the wider community.
“We are incredibly proud of our learners and grateful to our partners who supported these important activities. Let’s continue to prioritize the safety and well-being of every child-protecting them from harm and ensuring they grow up in nurturing, supportive environments,” said a school spokesperson.
With passion and determination, Hillside Learning Academy’s Child Protection Week 2025 showcased the power of unity in protecting South Africa’s most vulnerable.
