A community-funded initiative near Lenasia is bringing hope of a dedicated facility where Hindu families will be able to perform the sacred ritual of Asthi Visarjan, as construction of the Ghat Bridge continues to make progress. The bridge will feature a specially designed opening in its centre, allowing families to immerse the ashes of their departed loved ones directly into the flowing river as part of the religious ceremony.
With a total construction cost of R104,000, 51% of the amount has already been paid to the contractor. However, additional financial contributions are still needed to settle the outstanding balance and ensure that the project can be completed. The initiative is not being driven by any specific organisation but by individuals who have taken the responsibility of establishing a facility that will serve the religious and cultural needs of the community.
All contributions go directly towards the construction project, with payments made to the contractor against the building work. The pace of construction and completion depends on settling the outstanding payments. Community members, businesses, organisations and individuals who are in a position to assist are invited to contribute towards making this vision a reality.
While further improvements are planned for the future, the immediate priority is to complete the bridge so that families can begin using the facility. Every contribution, regardless of the amount, will make a difference. Those who may not be able to contribute financially can also help by sharing the appeal with others who may be willing to support the project.
NO AMOUNT IS TOO SMALL!
