Johannesburg Executive Mayor Cllr Dada Morero met with community members from Region G, including Wards 120 and 122, at the Lenasia Civic Centre to hear their concerns about service delivery and discuss possible interventions.

The engagement provided residents with an opportunity to raise challenges affecting Lenasia South and surrounding communities, with electricity emerging as one of the major concerns. Among the issues raised was the growing problem of illegal electricity connections, which residents said continues to place pressure on the electricity network.

A resident from Ennerdale raised concerns about illegal connections, while discussions also highlighted the importance of households paying for their electricity consumption to support the sustainability of the electricity system.

The issue of population growth also featured prominently, with concerns that the expansion of communities has exceeded earlier expectations, placing additional pressure on existing infrastructure and municipal services. Residents stressed the need for infrastructure development and service delivery interventions that keep pace with the growing population.

The engagement forms part of efforts to bring municipal leadership closer to communities and provide residents with a platform to communicate their concerns directly to the City. The City will need to translate the concerns raised into practical interventions, with residents looking for lasting solutions to the challenges affecting their daily lives.
