A suspect allegedly linked to more than eight serious criminal cases across Gauteng has been arrested following a multi-agency operation in Phumla Mqashi Informal Settlement. The suspect is linked to three counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder, as well as cases involving hijacking, theft and fraud.
The cases span from Ivory Park, Tembisa, Kempton Park, Lenasia South and Eldorado Park. The arrest was carried out by the Gauteng Traffic Police High Priority Crimes and Internal Affairs Unit, together with Ivory Park SAPS, the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD), Safeguard Risk Services and Fidelity ITOC. According to authorities, officers received information about the suspect’s whereabouts in Phumla Mqashi and launched an intensive observation operation.
The suspect was spotted during the operation, after which officers proceeded to search his premises,during the operation, officers recovered an unlicensed firearm and live ammunition, along with a black BMW 320i that was reportedly unregistered and allegedly linked to other criminal cases.
A pair of SAPS boots and a cellphone were also recovered. The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by law-enforcement agencies to investigate serious and violent crimes and apprehend suspects linked to cases across Gauteng. Investigations into the various cases are continuing, and the suspect is expected to face charges relating to the matters under investigation.
