Police have launched a double murder investigation after two people were shot and killed inside a vehicle near Eldorado Park on Monday, 2 November. The victims were travelling in a Toyota Urban Cruiser when gunmen opened fire on the vehicle near the Klipspruit West off-ramp.
According to Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Isaac Mudau, officers responded to reports of a shooting and found the vehicle with bullet holes in the driver’s door. A woman seated in the driver’s seat and a man in the front passenger seat were found inside the vehicle. Both were declared dead at the scene by emergency services.
The woman was later identified as 30-year-old attorney Nadine Meintjies, who worked at Dane von Branden Attorneys. The identity of the male passenger has not been publicly established in the reports reviewed. Police have opened two counts of murder as investigations continue. At the time of the initial police confirmation, no arrests had been made.
Meintjies’ death has also prompted tributes from members of the legal profession. Spangenberg Attorneys Inc. described her passing as tragic, expressing condolences to her family, friends and colleagues. The firm said her death was a painful reminder that legal practitioners should be able to carry out their professional duties without fearing for their lives.
The motive for the shooting has not been officially established, and police investigations are ongoing. Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is urged to contact the police.
