A hijacked vehicle was recovered in Lenasia South after Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department Tactical Response Unit officers followed up on information from the victim, leading to the detention of multiple suspects.
According to JMPD, officers were conducting crime prevention patrols near Beatrice Street and Golden Highway when a motorist approached them and reported that he had been hijacked the previous day along Provincial Road and Golden Highway in Lenasia.
The man told officers that he had spotted his hijacked vehicle entering the Magson Manor residential area.
Officers immediately followed up on the information and traced the vehicle to a house in the area. A woman was found at the property, and during a search of the premises, officers recovered the vehicle.
The victim was brought to the scene and positively identified it as his. The vehicle was later seized and booked at the Lenasia SAPS pound.
During the search, officers also recovered an SAPS uniform which the woman was reportedly unable to account for. She was taken in for further questioning.
JMPD said officers continued searching for other suspects when members of the community alerted them to the whereabouts of the main suspect.
A foot chase followed, and officers apprehended a male suspect. A second suspect, who was allegedly linked to the hijacking, later handed himself over to police.
The suspects were detained at Lenasia South SAPS, where a case of possession of suspected stolen property was opened.
Investigations are continuing.
