Lehae Library marked Women’s Month by equipping teachers from local Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres with basic computer literacy skills aimed at strengthening their confidence in an increasingly digital world.
The training session brought together ECD teachers for practical learning focused on essential computer skills that can assist them in their everyday work. The programme was designed to help participants become more comfortable using technology while improving their ability to access digital resources and information.
For ECD teachers, digital literacy can play an important role in preparing educational material, accessing online learning resources, communicating and completing administrative duties. By introducing participants to basic computer skills, the session provided them with knowledge they can continue developing beyond the training.
The initiative formed part of Joburg Libraries’ efforts to promote lifelong learning and digital inclusion within communities. Libraries are increasingly serving not only as spaces for books and reading, but also as centres where residents can gain practical skills and access opportunities in the digital environment.
The Women’s Month programme also recognised the important contribution ECD teachers make in laying the foundation for children’s learning and development. Strengthening the skills of educators can have a wider impact, as the knowledge gained can ultimately benefit the young children and families they serve.
Through initiatives such as the Lehae Library computer literacy session, Joburg Libraries continues to create opportunities for community members to learn, develop new skills and participate more confidently in the digital world.
