The Lenasia Table Tennis Association (LTTA) is celebrating a successful outing after its players returned with an impressive haul of medals from the 2026 South African Table Tennis Championships Regional and Open, held at the Ngoako Ramahlodi Sports Complex in Seshego, Polokwane.
The championships, which ran from 28 June to 8 July, attracted South Africa’s top table tennis players as well as competitors from Zimbabwe, Botswana and Namibia, providing a highly competitive platform across junior, senior and masters divisions.
Representing the Johannesburg Table Tennis Association (JTTA), LTTA players played a key role in Johannesburg’s strong overall performance, helping the association collect 35 medals—12 gold, eight silver and 15 bronze.
Among the standout performers was Sameera Maal, who once again proved her dominance in the masters categories. She claimed four gold medals in the Women’s 40+ Team, Women’s 40+ Doubles, Women’s Singles 35+ and Women’s Singles 40+ events, while also securing bronze in the Women’s Team and Mixed Doubles 35+ competitions.
Chetan Nathoo also enjoyed a memorable tournament, winning gold with the Men’s Team before adding another two gold medals in the Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles events. He rounded off his campaign with a silver medal in the Senior Men’s Singles.
Danisha Patel added to LTTA’s success by winning gold in the Mixed Doubles, silver in the Senior Women’s Singles and bronze medals in both the Women’s Team and Women’s Doubles events.
The association’s young talent also announced itself on the national stage. Muaaz Hoosen was part of the Under-11 Boys Team that claimed gold, while Bimal Jivraj secured bronze in the U19 Boys Doubles alongside Free State’s Rupert Bester.
Other medal winners included Priya Ranchod, who earned bronze in the Women’s Singles 35+ event, and Himal Devchand, who claimed silver in the Men’s 40+ Team event and bronze in the Men’s 50+ Doubles alongside Queens Titans Table Tennis Club’s Hussein Mahomedy.
LTTA PRO and Media and Marketing Manager Priya Ranchod said the results reflected the dedication shown by players throughout the season and the collective effort behind their success.
“These results reflect the dedication, discipline and countless hours of preparation invested by our players. We are incredibly proud of everyone who represented LTTA and JTTA. While we’re celebrating the medal winners, we’re equally proud of those who gained valuable experience competing against some of the best players in South Africa and neighbouring countries. Their performances have strengthened our belief that the future of our association is exceptionally bright,” said Ranchod.
Ranchod also acknowledged the contribution of coaches, administrators, officials, volunteers, parents and supporters, saying their continued commitment has been instrumental in developing table tennis talent within the Lenasia community.
The association extended special congratulations to Sameera Maal, Chetan Nathoo, Danisha Patel, Muaaz Hoosen, Bimal Jivraj and Priya Ranchod for their outstanding achievements, while recognising the efforts of all LTTA players who competed at the championships, including Salma Sheik Hoosein, Manqoba Nyamate, Zayd Hoosen, Darshan Singh, Fatima Zahra Abdullah, Himal Devchand and Diyanah Bibi Khan.
With experienced campaigners continuing to deliver and a new generation of players making their mark, LTTA believes the championship results provide further momentum as the association looks ahead to the rest of the season.
