A 58-year-old driver has been arrested following a deadly road rage shooting in Emmarentia that left one man dead and two others injured on Sunday, 19 April.

The incident unfolded when two male drivers were involved in a road rage confrontation that escalated into a physical altercation.

According to police, a female passenger believed to be the wife of one of the drivers allegedly retrieved a firearm from a vehicle. The second driver also produced a firearm, leading to a shooting.

The husband was fatally wounded at the scene. The other driver sustained minor injuries, while the female passenger was taken to hospital with a gunshot wound.

Police have confirmed that a 58-year-old man has since been taken into custody and is expected to appear before the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 21 April 2026.

Cases of murder and attempted murder are under investigation.

Police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi has urged motorists to remain calm and avoid confrontations on the road.

“We appeal to all road users to exercise patience and comply with traffic laws to prevent such tragic incidents,” she said.
