Police have detained three suspects after an alleged incident of cable theft and interference with municipal infrastructure at the Golden Highway and Wimbledon Road intersection. The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) said Region G officers responded to a complaint about suspected theft, assisted by security personnel from Empriop Security and Deep South Security.

On arrival, officers reportedly found a group of men digging and tampering with municipal infrastructure. The suspects were arrested and taken to Ennerdale SAPS, where they were detained. Officers seized three pickaxes, three spades and an irrigation pipe measuring approximately 12 metres. The items were booked in as exhibits.

The JMPD reaffirmed its commitment to protecting municipal infrastructure and promoting road safety, warning that unlawful activities would not be tolerated. The suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
