The event brought together devotees in a powerful display of faith, unity and spiritual devotion at the Shree Durga Mandir, 1143 Lanchaster Road, Lenasia South, Ext 1.
The gathering saw devotees chanting the Shri Durga Chalisa 108 times in reverence to Durga Mata, filling the Mandir with a palpable divine vibration throughout the day. The programme culminated in a vibrant and joyous Garba, as attendees celebrated in devotion and gratitude.
Pandit Joe Dass conducted the opening prayer and concluded the ceremony with a sacred fire offering (Hawan). Organisers extended heartfelt appreciation to the many individuals who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the success of the annual recital. Special recognition was given to “the single handedly organiser and single handedly founder Meeradevi Badassy, who dedicated days and nights in preparation, creating a beautiful and welcoming environment for all devotees,” said Pratiksha Badassy, the new PRO of Shree Durga Mandir.
Speaking to GLOBE POST, Kamlesh Ghurbarun, a devoted member of the Shree Durga Mandir said: “We would like to thank all the participating groups for their beautiful Durga Chalisa renditions – without which, the 108 Chalisas would not have been possible. We would like to thank all the Volunteers that ensured our guests and each devotee were comfortable and catered for.”
Ghurbarun described the day as spiritually uplifting: “The energy in the Mandir was absolutely divine. From the first chant to the final Garba, you could feel Durga Maa’s presence. The unity among devotees and the dedication of the organisers made this year’s recital truly special.”
While the day was marked by celebration, it was also observed with a heavy heart following the recent passing of three devoted members. “Over the past few weeks, the organisation has sadly lost 3 devotees : Mrs Rasheena Ramcherita, Mrs Meeradevi Badassy and Mrs Ragana Veeragaloo,” he told GLOBE POST.
Pratiksha said: “Badassy was remembered in particular the initiator of the very first Durga Chalisa Recitals and right till her last day, leaving behind a lasting spiritual legacy within the Mandir community.
“Our sincere and heartfelt prayers go out to each of the respective families. May Durga Maa guide you through this very painful period and May Mata grant the departed Atmas Moksha,” he said.
