The death toll from the tragic building collapse in Ormonde, on 2 March has risen to nine with rescue teams continuing their desperate search for survivors.
The incident occurred shortly after 2pm on Monday, 2 March at 6 Amethyst Business Park on Amethyst Road, when part of the building suddenly gave way trapping multiple people beneath the rubble.
On Tuesday, the Johannesburg Emergency Services, the rescue crews have recovered several victims from the Ormonde building collapse: “Six people were confirmed dead on Monday, two more bodies were retrieved on Tuesday morning, and a ninth victim, who had been buried in the rubble, has now also been recovered. Three others are currently in hospital receiving treatment.”
Teams are currently engaged in carefully extracting another individual discovered in the debris. Several people remain unaccounted for, as emergency workers race against time to reach anyone who may still be trapped.
