The Johannesburg District Commissioner, Major General Nonhlanhla Kubheka, led a highly successful law enforcement initiative, Operation Shanela 2, targeting crime hotspots in the Ennerdale and Lenasia South policing precincts.

During the operation, law enforcement officers focused on combating illegal activities ranging from undocumented residency to possession of dangerous items and illicit trading. A statement issued by SAPS said: “Around 50 undocumented persons were arrested as part of the operation, highlighting the ongoing efforts to strengthen law enforcement in vulnerable communities.”

“In Ennerdale, authorities arrested eight suspects for serious offenses, including the possession of explosives, impersonating police officers, and unlicensed firearms. Meanwhile, in Lenasia South, one individual was taken into custody for possession of unlicensed ammunition, and another suspect was apprehended for illegally possessing a gold-bearing medal,” the statement added.

According to SAPS, the operation included inspections at local liquor outlets to ensure compliance with licensing regulations. “During these inspections, eight individuals were arrested for selling alcohol without a valid license. In addition, five suspects were apprehended for possession of drugs,” reads the statement.

Kubheka praised the officers involved: “The operation demonstrated the police’s commitment to maintaining public safety, upholding the law, and protecting communities from illegal activities.” She encouraged citizens to continue reporting suspicious activities to aid law enforcement efforts.
