City Power has announced the resignation of its Chief Executive Officer, Tshifularo Mashava, effective 30 March.
Mashava joined City Power ten years ago, she has served as CEO since 2022. Prior to her appointment, she was an Acting CEO and Group Executive: Human Resources. Her career in the energy sector spans more than 20 years, including an eight years at Eskom and experience as a consultant at Deloitte.
In a statement, City Power said: “During her leadership, Mashava led City Power from a traditional electricity distributor into a broader energy services entity. Central to this shift was the implementation of a 10-point energy plan aimed at diversifying supply and modernising infrastructure.”
Mashava also oversaw the integration of renewable energy sources into the municipal grid and the launch of the city’s first municipal-led electric vehicle and microgrid programmes – initiatives designed to future-proof Johannesburg’s energy mix.
On the service delivery front, thousands of households in informal settlements were electrified during her term, while a targeted turnaround strategy contributed to a reduction in unplanned power outages across several areas.
The statement added: “Mashava leaves behind a solid foundation and a transformed organisation that is better equipped to meet the energy needs of a modern Johannesburg. Her departure marks the end of a significant chapter for the utility.”
To ensure leadership continuity, City Power has resolved that Chief Operations Officer Charles Tlouane will assume the role of Acting Chief Executive Officer from 1 April 2026. “The Board is currently consulting with the Shareholder, the City Manager and the Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) as part of the transition process. Further announcements regarding the recruitment of a permanent successor will be made in due course,” said City Power.
The Board, Executive Committee and employees of City Power thanked Mashava for her dedicated service and wished her well in her future endeavours.
