This past weekend, Volkswagen enthusiasts gathered at SA Campfest, and among the standout participants was Kaamilah Ebrahim, who took home both the Best Low and Best Ladies awards for her striking Mk2 R32.

Kaamilah, who has made a name for herself in a male-dominated automotive scene, told GLOBE POST: “As a female, it’s very hard to get recognition for modifying cars and driving stance cars. We are forced to work twice as hard to stand out. The most challenging part of my build was and still is the criticism you will get. Stepping into a male-dominated area will never be easy.”

Despite the challenges, Kaamilah is proud of her achievements. She highlighted her 2025 wins at VW vs BMW and Germany vs Japan, where she made history as the first female to win Best of Show VW, alongside titles for Best Mk2 and Best Engine Bay.

“The SA Campfest awards were built in collaboration my husband, Ziyaad Ebrahim and his team at Zee Tech Auto. I’m grateful to Ziyaad for the motivation and for working late nights to complete the build,” she said.

Inspiration for her modifications came from a deep love for VW, especially the Mk2. “My modifications were done based on what I like. My advice to others is to stay true to what you like. Your car should be built for you and nobody else. At the end of the day, SA Campfest is a gathering of VW fans coming together to showcase their designs; winning a trophy is just a plus,” she said.

Kaamilah told GLOBE POST: “I’m a BIG VW fan and love the concept of modifying. Since the age of 20, it was always a dream to own a Mk2. When I finally bought it, we immediately started modifications on it. It was a lot of work, extremely stressful, but the end result makes it all worth it.”

According to Kaamilah, the build underwent three months of detailed finishing work this year, refining imperfections and enhancing the car’s distinctive look. The interior, finished by Waseem from Custom Candy Shop in Lenasia South, is all black, representing class. The exterior blue paint, customized over multiple coats, was carefully chosen to reflect a similar sense of elegance.

She explained that her car is her beautiful lady: “Most people would traditionally say a car should be a him, but her Mk2 R32 reflects what I see in myself, therefore making it my lady.”

Kaamilah’s R32 is also featured in the February issue of Speed and Sound, detailing all the modifications made to the car. She concluded by celebrating the talent in her community: “Lenasia South is gifted with talented individuals and businesses. We should continue to support each other and grow the community.”
