The family of 33-year-old Asheek Singh demands justice as the accused was granted R10,000 bail despite pathology results confirming the cause of death as murder. The family that the suspect has violated his bail conditions.

Speaking to GLOBE POST, Singh’s mother, Narisha Nuncoo, said: “Reedwan Ali was taken into custody and got arrested on 25 June. The incident occurred on the night of 14 June at South Fork Flats in Ext9, Lenasia, where Asheek had attended a party. Although he was not close friends with those present, he knew them through his former girlfriend, who socialised within the group. We believe that Asheek was deliberately lured to the location as part of a planned robbery targeting him for cash and his father’s vehicle.”

Nuncoo added: “Evidence indicates that my son was struck from behind on the head with a blunt object, possibly a metal rod or golf club, rendering him unconscious. Instead of calling for medical assistance, Ali and others carried him down the stairs.”

The family claims that Singh was critically injured and bleeding, he was then placed into his father’s vehicle. “Ali then drove around for several hours while continuing to socialise, leaving Singh unattended in the car for approximately 11 hours.”

On 15 June, Ali reportedly went to the family home in Lenasia Ext1, returned the vehicle keys to Singh’s father, Sudesh Singh, and said his son had been “hurt” and was at the clinic. “When Asheek’s father went to Lenasia Clinic, a doctor informed him that Asheek had already passed away and had likely been deceased for 10 to 11 hours,” said Nuncoo.

Nuncoo told GLOBE POST: “A disturbing incident linked to the case has since surfaced in a video footage circulating on social media. In the footage recorded at South Fork Flats, Ali is heard telling a woman that he is going to kill her while she calls him a murderer and says she will contact the police to report him.”

According to Nuncoo, several residents from South Fork Flats have since contacted them with information regarding what happened that night. However, they allege that these individuals are being threatened and are too fearful to come forward formally, further hindering the investigation.

“This is not just about my son anymore, it is about accountability and justice. My child was attacked, abandoned and denied medical help, and those who helped move him and stayed silent must be held responsible,” concluded Nuncoo.
