Residents of Ennerdale gathered at Ext 3 (Robots) on 24 January for a candle-light memorial and white balloon release in remembrance of the children who tragically lost their lives in the recent Vaal accident.
The event, led by Pastor Oliver of KCC, was attended by Miss Ennerdale Senior and Junior and two princesses, as well as learners transported by Lawley Scholar Transport from schools including Fred Norman learners.
Accordind to the organiser Chantel Bloy, the memorial was aimed at uniting the community and offering support to bereaved families.“We wanted to create a space where families and children could come together to honour the lives lost and show love to those who are grieving. This tragedy has touched us as a nation,” said Bloy .
“As a mother, I was deeply touched by how these children lost their lives in such a horrific accident. It’s something no parent should ever experience, and it reminded me of how important it is for the community to come together,” she added.
The ceremony included prayers for survivors and bereaved families, followed by the symbolic release of white balloons into the sky, representing hope and rememblrance.
