After more 120 hours without electricity, frustrated Lenasia South Ext 4 residents have raised health and food security concerns with community members having to throw away perishables as their fridges are not working.
Premie Paul, whose husband depends on oxygen support that requires electricity to charge said the ongoing outage has placed immense strain on them and heightened fears for his well-being. She added that power outages in the area are frequent: “These power outages happen every month, twice a month. When we try to contact the Councillor, she is out of reach. We tried calling and texting but she hasn’t gotten back to us.”
Ward 120 ,Cllr, Puseletso Nzimande said the outage was caused by a cable fault. She said that City Power technicians came on the first to fix the issue, but once they were done it tripped. They later found out that there was another 600 meter cable that is also damaged.
Cllr Nzimande added: “This is a technical issue and there is nothing I can do about it, other than contacting City Power.”
In a statement, City Power said: “The service provider is on site, and repairs are underway. This outage is affecting Lenasia South Extension Four. Customers will receive updates as and when new information becomes available.”
