The Gauteng government is today observing the Back to School readiness programme across the province, marking the start of the new academic year.

Premier Panyaza Lesufi together with Members of the Executive Council (MECs) are visiting several schools across all five regions of the province to engage with school management teams, learners, parents and communities assessing the preparedness for the start of the schooling year.

Lesufi accompanied by MEC Matome Chiloane and MEC Jacob Mamabolo are visiting Rust-Ter-Vaal Secondary School in the Sedibeng District (Vereeniging). The The programme will also include engagements at Kgokare Secondary School and Esokwazi Secondary School in Sedibeng West (Sebokeng), with MEC Bonginkosi Dhlamini in attendance.

Additional visits are happening at Bokgoni Technical Secondary School, Esikhisini Primary School and Phelindaba Secondary School.

In the Tshwane area, MEC Lebogang Maile will oversee visits in Atteridgeville and Mabopane.

The delegates are monitoring infrastructure readiness as well as delivery of critical support services, learner wellbeing interventions and social support programmes available to learners.
