Residents in parts of Johannesburg and surrounding communities have been urged to remain cautious after the South African Weather Service (SAWS) issued a Yellow Level 2 warning for isolated showers and severe thunderstorms.

SAWS confirmed in a statement that the warning applies to Johannesburg South, Lenasia South, Lawley, Ennerdale, Lenasia and nearby areas, where heavy rainfall weather conditions are expected.

According to SAWS, the forecast includes rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, which may develop rapidly in isolated locations.

SAWS also cautioned that the storms could lead to localised impacts such as slippery roads, reduced visibility, minor flooding in low – lying areas, and possible disruptions to outdoor activities.

Motorists have been advised to drive with care, particularly during heavy downpours, and pedestrians are encouraged to avoid crossing flooded roads or streams. Community members are also urged to secure loose items and remain alert for sudden changes in weather conditions.

SAWS said it will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates should conditions worsen. Residents are encouraged to stay informed through official weather channels and to take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
