Johannesburg Water (JW) has announced a pipeline upgrade project to Liverpool Bloc, Lenasia South stakeholders, outlining a three-phase plan to modernise the community’s water infrastructure.

Ward 120’s Cllr Puseletso Nzimande, told GLOBE POST: “JW is attending to the matter that is affecting residents’ ongoing pipe burst in the area. This three-phase project is anticipated to cost plus minus R24 million.”

Terrance Malahlela, Civil Engineering Technician at JW, told GLOBE POST that the work will significantly strengthen the area’s water supply.
“The benefits of this project are to improve the reliability of the water system in Liverpool Street and surroundings, and reduce the number of pipe bursts,” he explained.

The project will include the installation of modern HDPE pipes using trenchless methods, along with the replacement of ageing valves and fire hydrants. All three phases will begin simultaneously and are expected to take four months to complete.

He added that the number of workers will be determined by the contractor, but he estimates about 10 employees per phase.

Cllr Nzimande invites the residents to the upcoming public meeting, taking place on Monday, 15 December at 17:00pm at Lenasia South Civic Centre. “The public meeting forms as part of the ongoing efforts to keep residents informed and involved in infrastructure developments that may affect their community,” Nzimande said.

Nzimande added that water is a basic need for the residents. “Our residents must benefit from the project. 50% of the workers will come from Lenasia South and others from surrounding areas,” she concluded.

This newspaper lauds the efforts of the many residents in the Liverpool Street bloc, who tirelessly report these service delivery failures. Your effort have paid off.
