Ennerdale Ext 1 was buzzing with energy on 6 December as the Caring Kyren Foundation hosted its MOvember & Shave-a-ton event at Lacoste Car Wash.

Founded by Denaven and Tarryn LeBattie, the foundation organised the day to raise awareness about men’s health issues, including mental health, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer. Participants joined the Shave-a-ton programme, shaving or styling their hair to spark conversations, engage the community, and raise funds for this vital cause.

The event was packed with laughter, excitement, and touching moments. Families and children sprayed colors, took part in activities, and shared their stories, creating a truly memorable experience that reflected the foundation’s spirit of care and community.

The organisers said: “It was a day where the community came together not just to attend a programme, but to feel, to heal and to honour. We began with a moment of prayer and remembrance, holding space for every survivor, every family still fighting, and every precious soul who has gained their wings. The testimonies shared were incredibly moving-stories of pain, strength and unimaginable resilience.”

“Many of us were in tears as we witnessed how boldly people stood up and spoke their truth, reminding us why our work is so important. The children brought a beautiful balance to the day. Their laughter filled the air as they sprayed their hair, played freely and enjoyed moments of pure joy-a powerful reminder that even in heavy seasons, hope still lives. Seeing their smiles gave all of us renewed strength. We appreciate your interest in helping us highlight this cause,” organisers added.

Local partners and sponsors generously supported the event, helping to bring the vision to life. The Caring Kyren Foundation was born from both love and loss. It was inspired by Dreson Kyren LeBattie, the founders’ 5-year-old son, who was diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer while in Grade R.

After bravely fighting for two months, Dreson gained his angel wings. His courage and spirit inspired his parents to create the foundation, which now aims to provide care, hope and opportunities for children and families in need. Their long-term dream is to open a cancer screening centre in the south of Johannesburg, turning tragedy into purpose through God’s grace.
