The Lenasia Table Tennis Association (LTTA) hosted a memorable Gala Evening on 4 December at Gandhi Hall, where players, coaches, sponsors and community leaders gathered to celebrate excellence, unity and the revival of table tennis in the region.
The event highlighted outstanding achievements across junior, senior and veteran categories while paying tribute to pioneers who built the foundation of the sport in Lenasia. The evening featured inspiring messages from special guests, including Shihan Mohan Hira, who reflected on the early struggles and triumphs of sports development in Lenasia.
Member of Parliament Vuyolwethu Zungula, praised LTTA’s remarkable resurgence since early 2024, growing from two tables to a thriving community hub. He commended coaches such as Danisha Patel, Chetan Nathoo and Sameera Maal for shaping future national and international champions.Ismail Vadi honoured past legends whose commitment to non-racial sport strengthened table tennis over decades.
LTTA chairperson Vikash Kasan, also reflected on a year of growth and announced the launch of LTTA Soweto, expanding opportunities for youth beyond Lenasia. The night recognised dozens of awardees across multiple categories, celebrating dedication, talent and sportsmanship. Achievements from the SA Nationals, JTTA League, LTTA tournaments and special awards showcased the depth of skill within the association.
From elite performers like Sameera Maal and Chetan Nathoo to rising juniors and passionate community volunteers, each award celebrated a vital part of LTTA’s success.The Gala Evening reaffirmed LTTA as more than a sports association – it is a family, a community force and a beacon of excellence empowering the next generation of champions both on and off the table.
