The Ennerdale Recovery Group (ERG) hosted its annual Ennerdale Drug Awareness event on Saturday, 15 November at Ennerdale Ext 9 Civic Centre. Bringing together recovering addicts, community members and volunteers in a powerful demonstration of hope, support, and change.
The event aimed to raise awareness, sending a message that recovery from drug and alcohol addiction is possible. ERG’s Marcel Young, who has been sober for 13 years told Globe Post: “The event is amazing as it gives the ones who are addicted a way out and shows them you can live a life free from alcohol and drugs. It’s attended by many recovering alcoholics and addicts who give of their time free of charge to help others.”
Young also stated the challenges faced by the group, “The saddest thing is we live in a community exposed to drug and alcohol abuse, and most of the community does not support it. We do this out of our own pockets so that others can live. More can be done if the community starts taking this epidemic seriously. Fix the drug problem, fix the community.”
“Our resources are limited, so we need the community to start holding our hands and help as many as we can. I thank the ones who have assisted us over the past few years and plead with people to come to our meetings weekly and see there is a way out,” he added.
