Dedication and discipline have paid off for Shodan Given Ngoepe (28) from Vlakfontein Ext 3, who officially received his First Dan Black Belt on 21 March at the Kyokushinkai Karate Headquarters in Mpontsheng, Ekurhuleni.
The honour was bestowed under the guidance of country representative Shihan Sibisi. Sensei Mabati Makwela, who has trained Ngoepe since 2015, expressed immense pride in his student’s achievement. He highlighted Ngoepe’s unwavering commitment, noting that while many students use academic duties as an excuse, karate actually helped Ngoepe improve his focus, discipline and academic performance.
“Since I established Zakariya Park Karate Club in 2014 and later expanded to Lenasia South, Shodan Given is the first student to achieve a First Dan Black Belt. His success proves that the beat goes on,” said Sensei Mabati.
A thrilled Ngoepe shared his excitement: “I am really happy and grateful to my trainer, Sensei Makwela, for his patience and support. The journey was not easy, but through hard work and determination, I achieved my Black Belt in Kyokushinkai Karate.”
This milestone is not just a personal victory but an inspiration for all aspiring martial artists in the community!
