As the publishing editor of GLOBE POST, I am filled with immense gratitude as we celebrate our 33rd anniversary this month. Founded in March 1992 as SOUTHERN GLOBE during a period of political unrest and economic uncertainty, our journey has been one of resilience, determination and unwavering commitment to community journalism.

From a civic newsletter, over the years, GLOBE POST evolved into a vital source of news and information for Lenasia South, Ennerdale, Finetown and surrounding areas.

Orange Farm News was launched in 2012, followed by Walkerville & Savanna City Times in 2016. Our mission has always been to serve as both a watchdog and a guide, holding power to account while giving a voice to the communities we serve. In navigating the complexities of an evolving media landscape, we sometimes forget that our work is about more than just local media. We have created a positive movement dedicated to highlighting the power of exceptional journalism.

I would like to acknowledge the dedication and hard work of my co-publisher, Sheldon Govendor, as well as our incredible team members Omesha Chetty, Mbali Nqubuka, Ottis Manyoba, Dawn Adams and many more. Their contributions have shaped GLOBE POST into the trusted community publication it is today.

Beyond news reporting, we are also committed to community upliftment. Our involvement with organisations such as the Association of Independent Publishers in South Africa, the Solutions Journalism Network in the US and the Amplify South Africa Initiative reflects our dedication to tackling media challenges while enhancing the sustainability of independent journalism.

I extend my heartfelt gratitude to local advertisers, readers and community organisations who have supported GLOBE POST throughout the years. Your unwavering faith in our publication fuels our passion and drives us to uphold the principles of truth, integrity and service to the community.

As we celebrate this milestone, I urge you to support our efforts to keep community journalism alive by placing your adverts in our publications, on our Facebook pages and websites. Here’s to many more years of making an impact!

– Shirley Govender (Shaaziya)
