From 26 to 28 February 2025, Sgt Makwela participated in the SAPS Gauteng Sports: Inter-Provincial Competition, held at the DCS Kgoshi Mampuru Maximum Prison in Pretoria.
This event promotes martial arts for officer fitness. It brought together personnel from the Free State province and SAPS headquarters to compete in various sports, including chess, marathon, martial arts, netball, rugby, soccer, squash, tug of war and volleyball.
Sgt Makwela excelled in the Advanced Kata category of martial arts, securing first place and winning a gold medal and a trophy.
Representing Gauteng Full Contact Karate, Sgt Makwela encouraged fellow police officers to engage in martial arts to promote fitness and well-being within the force, ultimately leading to healthier, more fit officers.
