The Sector 3 Crime Forum hosted a successful Coffee with a Cop event, giving residents a platform to engage with local law enforcement and discuss pressing safety concerns.
CPF Sector 3 Chairperson Raksha Soni highlighted the event’s purpose: “We wanted to introduce the sector crime forum to the community, ensuring residents know who we are and who to contact for issues.”
Residents raised concerns about crime awareness, the lack of police vehicles, reckless driving, illegal taxi parking and frequent dumping that creates opportunities for crime. Many also felt that SAPS was not providing adequate assistance, leading to hesitancy in reporting crimes.
In response, Soni assured residents that sector patrols would improve communication and increase scholar patrols in identified danger zones. She urged the community to report all crimes, no matter how small, as underreporting affects resource allocation.
“If crimes aren’t reported, it appears as though crime is under control and the government won’t increase our fleet,” she explained.
She also encouraged residents to engage with crime wardens and report any misconduct. The official warden vehicle registrations for Sector 3 are LP80TY-GP and LX34ZS-GP.
Going forward, Sector 2 and Sector 3 plan to host these engagements monthly or bi-monthly to keep the community informed and involved in crime prevention.
Soni extended her gratitude to all role players, including Crime Wardens, Patrollers, SAPS, the CPF, the Youth Desk and local businesses for their support in making the event a success.
