A Journey of Dedication
Madam van Zyl’s teaching career began in 1987 at Unitas Park Primary, where she nurtured young minds in Grade 1 under the leadership of Principal Mr. Clarke. Her passion for education quickly became evident, and in 1989, she joined Fred Norman School, a bilingual institution where she taught Biology to Grade 10 students in both Afrikaans and English.
A Pause for Family and Exploration
In 1990, she took a brief hiatus from teaching to focus on her family. During this time, she ventured into farming, dairy production, and even served in a commando unit. Her love for nature flourished, and gardening became a source of joy and tranquility.
A Return to the Classroom
Madam van Zyl’s passion for teaching led her back to education in 1994, where she taught Grades 1 to 4 at Equity College, a private school. A year later, she found her home at Southview High School, a place where she would dedicate the next 30 years of her life to shaping young minds.
Building a Legacy at Southview High

Over the next 25 years, she played a crucial role in mentoring educators, fostering a love for science, and guiding students to academic success.
A Well-Earned Retirement
