Police Minister Senzo Mchunu says he believes that the man accused of raping and murdering a six-year-old girl, in Orlando, Soweto, must face the full might of the law.Mchunu was speaking following the appearance of a Mozambican national Pethe Simiao, at the Protea Magistrates’ Court in Soweto.
Simiao was arrested on Wednesday night after a warrant of arrest was issued. He is facing charges of kidnapping, rape, murder and the contravention of the immigration act. Simiao allegedly lured, raped and then murdered the six-year-old girl on Monday in Soweto.
Minister Mchunu has also called on the court not to grant bail to Simiao.“As for him talking about bail I don’t even think he knows what he is talking about I am sure he hears people talking about bail, but I don’t know what freedom he is trying to think about. Of course, on paper, he has those rights, but we are hearing joining the people and police to say he doesn’t even deserve to talk about bail, so we will come here to say no bail on the 1st of November to a criminal like this one,” he said.
