Save SA Civic Movement slams Joburg Mayor’s call to recruit foreigners in JMPD

The Save South Africa Civic Movement has strongly condemned and rejected the recent proposal by Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero, which suggests recruiting documented foreigners into the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) as a strategy to combat crime.

Mayor Morero made this suggestion during an ANC gathering, sparking outrage from Save SA, who view his remarks as both insensitive and out of touch with the current realities in South Africa. With unemployment rates already soaring, as confirmed by the latest Stats SA figures, Save SA argues that such a proposal is not only ill-conceived but also a direct insult to the millions of unemployed South Africans.

“Morero’s statement reveals his disconnection from the struggles of ordinary citizens and his inability to effectively lead Johannesburg. His proposal is premature, misplaced and anti-South African, further proving that he is unfit for the position,” said a spokesperson from Save SA.

The movement also criticised the broader issue of cadre deployment, which they believe has led to the appointment of leaders who lack the necessary skills and understanding to address the country’s challenges. They see Mayor Morero as a prime example of this problem.

Save SA warned that Morero’s remarks could fuel division and incite xenophobic attacks, as unemployed South Africans may view foreign nationals as competitors for scarce jobs.

The organisation urged the ANC to take immediate action against Morero before his statements cause further damage. In conclusion, Save SA has lost all confidence in Morero’s leadership and demands a public apology to the vulnerable and unemployed South Africans who feel betrayed by his comments. Until such an apology is made, they will not support his tenure as mayor and call on the unemployed to reject his leadership.
