What started as Koketjo Semenya’s hobby after struggling to get employment following completion of a Diploma in Logistics and Supply Chain Mnanagement has turned into a lucrative business and the go-to dine and wine venue in Lenasia South’s Hillside.

Food by K – priding itself in offering a unique dining experience with modernised local street food – is a food and beverage company that has taken social media by storm. Established in 2018, Food by K employs two permanent staff and five casual employees who assist during the popular monthly events like the Ladies Wine and Dine Sundays.
Semenya shared the challenges they encounter as a business, he said: “Because we are self-funded, the biggest challenge has always been funds and space. Due to the increasing demand, we plan to move to a bigger space, however, this takes time and we try by all means to maximize the little resources we have.”
The 29-year-old food enthusiast aspires to be as unique as possible offering an experience different from what other local food joints offer.
The reception has been great, people all over love Food by K’s dishes with the Beef Quesadilla being the most adored. “It is our top seller and it often sells out within an hour of the store opening,” added Semenya.
Food by K’s unique menu gives it competitive advantage over its competitors.
“We are not where we want to be but we are far from where we started and we assure everyone that you expect an enhanced menu and experience,” he said.
The business is open to any sponsorship, especially when it hosts events.
