The City of Johannesburg has extended the inspection and objection period for its General Valuation Roll (GVR) 2023 from 31 March to 5 May, affording property owners ample time to scrutinise information about their properties.

Kgamanyane Maphologela, the Director of Customer Communications for the City’s Group Finance Department said the extension demonstrates the municipality’s willingness to become customer centric and responsive to residents.

Maphologela says the City agreed to extend the inspection and objection period for the #GVR2023 after receiving a flurry of requests and suggestions from property owners.

He said: “Some customers had yet to receive their section 49 notices and had requested the City to extend the inspection and objection period in that regard.”

Maphologela emphasised that the extension will afford residents of Johannesburg ample time to lodge objections against GVR entries.

“The extension is done in the spirit that shows that we are a City that listens to its stakeholders. This will afford all the residents enough time to object against any entry of their property should they wish to do so,” he said, adding that any person may inspect the General Valuation Roll.

The City has made it easy and accessible for residents to inspect or object on the General Valuation Roll. Residents can access the General Valuation Roll online: https://objections.joburg.org.za/, or at 13 public inspection venues across Johannesburg’s seven Regions.

“City officials will be available at these venues to assist customers who wish to inspect the Valuation Roll or submit an objection,” Maphologela added.
