The Corobrik Johannesburg Regional G Service Centre hosted a successful community open day on Saturday, 7 June, in Ext 10, Lenasia. The event attracted a significant number of local residents seeking assistance and information related to water, electricity, billing, and municipal services.
The event commenced at 8:00 AM and brought together representatives from multiple departments, including Joburg Water, City Power, the Valuations and Registry Departments, and the Expanded Social Package (ESP) team, facilitating comprehensive on-site support.
Clarence Jacobs, Regional Manager representing the Assistant Director, emphasized the initiative’s primary objective: to address longstanding service delivery concerns and facilitate prompt resolutions through collaborative efforts. “This is our community here in Region G. We operate as a team to serve and support one another. We are pleased with the turnout and appreciate the cooperation from all stakeholders involved,” Jacobs stated.
Despite coinciding with Eid- a significant religious holiday for the Muslim community- many residents still attended the event to resolve their issues. Jacobs expressed gratitude for their participation, noting, “I sincerely appreciate residents taking the time on such a special day to address their concerns.”
By mid-morning, over 150 residents had registered, with continued attendance throughout the day. The majority of attendees reported satisfaction, having their issues addressed on-site. Follow-up actions will be undertaken starting Monday, with a comprehensive report to be provided upon completion of assessments. Originally scheduled for 31 May, the event was postponed due to logistical challenges. Nonetheless, officials regarded the day as a success, particularly for reaching vulnerable groups such as the elderly, unemployed individuals, and those eligible for ESP rebates.
As temperatures rose later in the day, the community remained engaged and optimistic, demonstrating a collective commitment to improving municipal service delivery.
